ZEN DOG SPA Founders
Owner Danielle Hartill was introduced to grooming in 1998, when she took a part-time job at a grooming shop in New Jersey while studying to become a teacher. Within months, she realized she had found her real passion and decided to pursue a different path other than teaching, spending the next 2 years learning the grooming trade through a grooming apprenticeship.

In 2001, Danielle realized she was ready to go out on her own and opened her first business, The Barking Lot, in Totowa, NJ. The Barking Lot quickly became a huge success, with a focus on delivering quality grooming with care and kindness. Danielle often donated her services to local rescue groups and held various fundraisers for local animal organizations.

In 2004, she decided to pursue other areas of Animal Care. During a volunteer vacation to Best Friends Animal Society in Kanab, UT, she realized she could combine her grooming skills with her desire to help animals in need. She spent 7 years at Best Friends, first in grooming, then moving into different areas including animal care, adoptions, and humane education. Danielle also met her husband, Ross, at Best Friends.

In 2011, Danielle & Ross moved to NC, to be closer to family. During this time, Danielle was introduced to the Pet Boarding & Daycare Industry. She spent 6 years managing several locations for Ruff Housing Doggy Daycare.

When Danielle & Ross relocated to the Charleston area to pursue their dream of living at the beach in 2018, they knew they wanted to return to small business ownership. They found the perfect choice in Coats & Tails. They knew that with Danielle’s skill set in grooming and Ross’ experience in management, they could continue the excellent reputation and quality grooming services that Nancy had built with Coats & Tails while building on their vision for Zen Dog Spa.

In 2019, they recognized the need for quality pet care in the home, as well as dog walking and transport services, and decided to launch Zen Dog Pet Concierge.

They are excited to begin this new stage of their life while keeping the dogs of Charleston looking fabulous, providing excellent care in their parent’s absence, and giving back to this community that they now call home.
